Stamped Concrete
in Utah County

The look of natural stone, brick, or wood plank at a fraction of the cost. 15+ patterns and custom colors for patios, driveways, and walkways.

What Is Stamped Concrete?

Natural Stone Beauty,
Concrete Durability

Stamped concrete is a decorative finishing technique where patterns are pressed into freshly poured concrete to replicate the appearance of natural materials. The result is a durable, low-maintenance surface that looks like stone, brick, slate, or wood but performs like concrete.

The process starts with pouring a standard concrete slab. Before it fully sets, color is applied and large rubber stamps are pressed into the wet surface to create realistic texture and pattern. Once cured, a protective sealer locks in the color and adds a subtle sheen.

Rhode Concrete Corporation installs stamped concrete for homeowners across all 19 cities in Utah County. Owner Bryce Jones and his son handle every project personally, from color selection through final sealing.

Color Selection

Stamped Concrete
Color Options

Color selection is just as important as pattern selection. The combination of pattern plus color transforms plain concrete into a surface that looks like natural stone, brick, or wood.

How We Apply Color

Integral Color

Mixed directly into the concrete for consistent color throughout its full thickness. If the surface ever chips, the color goes all the way through.

Color Hardener

Powder broadcast onto the surface for richer, more vibrant tones. Increases surface density and strength for a more durable finish.

During your free estimate, Bryce brings color samples and pattern samples to your property so you can see how different combinations look against your home.

Our Process

How We Install Stamped Concrete

Our 8-step process ensures every project meets the highest standards. Bryce and his son handle every step personally.

1

Site Assessment & Design Consultation

Bryce visits your property, evaluates conditions, discusses pattern and color options, and provides a written estimate. He brings physical stamp and color samples.

2

Site Preparation

We remove any existing concrete, excavate to proper depth, compact the sub-base, and install gravel base material for Utah County's expansive clay soils.

3

Formwork Installation

Forms define the edges, shape, and grade of your project. We ensure proper drainage slope (1/8 inch per foot away from your home) and crisp edges.

4

Reinforcement Placement

Wire mesh or rebar is positioned within the forms for structural strength. Driveways get heavier reinforcement than patios.

5

Concrete Pouring & Placement

Fresh concrete is delivered and placed within forms. We screed and bull-float the surface for a flat, even base before color or stamping.

6

Color Application

Integral color is already mixed in. We broadcast color hardener for richness and surface strength, then a contrasting release agent for realistic depth.

7

Stamping

The most skilled step. We press rubber stamp mats into the workable concrete, aligning each precisely for a seamless pattern. Detail work is done by hand.

8

Curing & Sealing

After 24-48 hours of curing, we wash the surface and apply a protective acrylic sealer that enhances color, adds a subtle sheen, and protects against UV and staining.

Durability

Built to Last
25-30+ Years

Properly installed and maintained stamped concrete lasts 25 to 30 years or more in Utah County. That is comparable to standard concrete and significantly longer than wood decking (10-15 years) or asphalt (12-20 years).

How We Handle Freeze-Thaw

Proper base compaction prevents settling that leads to cracking
Adequate reinforcement (wire mesh or rebar) holds the slab together
Correct concrete mix with air entrainment absorbs freeze expansion
Protective sealer blocks water penetration on the surface

Maintenance Tips

Reseal Every 2-3 Years

Refreshes color, restores sheen, and renews surface protection against water and UV. The most important maintenance step.

Clean Periodically

A pressure washer on a low setting or a garden hose with a stiff broom removes dirt, debris, and organic staining.

Avoid Deicing Salts First Winter

New stamped concrete should not be exposed to deicing chemicals during its first freeze-thaw season. Use sand for traction instead.

Address Cracks Early

Small hairline cracks are normal and cosmetic. If a crack widens or a section settles, contact us before the issue spreads.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about stamped concrete in Utah County.

Stamped concrete in Utah County typically costs $12 to $25 per square foot, depending on pattern complexity, color choices, and project size. That compares to $6 to $12 per square foot for standard broom finish concrete. The difference covers color materials, stamping labor, detail work, and sealer application.
For homeowners who want a decorative look without the price of natural stone or pavers, stamped concrete offers excellent value. You get the appearance of premium materials at roughly half the cost, with less ongoing maintenance. Most homeowners who invest in stamped concrete say it was one of the best upgrades they made to their outdoor space.
With proper installation and regular resealing (every 2-3 years), stamped concrete lasts 25 to 30 years or more in Utah County. The key to longevity is correct base preparation, proper air-entrained concrete mix, and consistent sealer maintenance to protect against our freeze-thaw cycles.
The ideal pouring window in Utah County runs from late April through mid-October, when daytime temperatures consistently stay above 50°F. Stamped concrete requires slightly warmer conditions than standard concrete because the stamping process needs the surface to remain workable longer.
All concrete can develop hairline cracks over time, and stamped concrete is no exception. However, properly installed stamped concrete with correct control joint placement, adequate reinforcement, and a solid compacted base minimizes cracking significantly. The stamp pattern itself often helps hide minor hairline cracks.
Stamping is done during the initial pour while the surface is still wet and workable. You cannot stamp a slab that has already cured. Options for existing slabs include a concrete overlay (a thin stampable layer) or a full tear-out and replacement with new stamped concrete.
You can typically walk on stamped concrete 24 to 48 hours after the pour. Vehicle traffic should wait at least 7 days, and heavy vehicles should wait 14 days or more. Bryce provides specific curing instructions for every project based on the time of year.
