Shed & Hot Tub Concrete Pads
A level, properly poured concrete pad is the best foundation you can put under a storage shed, hot tub, or backyard outbuilding. Rhode Concrete Corporation pours custom concrete pads across 19 cities in Utah County.
Do You Need a Concrete Slab for a Shed?
You do not technically need a concrete slab under every shed. Small, lightweight plastic or metal storage sheds under 100 square feet can sit on compacted gravel or concrete blocks. But for any shed where you care about longevity, structural integrity, or protecting what is inside, a concrete pad is the right choice.
Investment protection: If you are investing $2,000 to $10,000 or more in a quality shed, spending $400 to $2,500 on a concrete pad protects that investment for 25 years or longer.

Shed Pad vs. Hot Tub Pad: Key Differences
While both are concrete pads poured in your backyard, shed pads and hot tub pads have different specifications. The weight they carry, the thickness they require, and the drainage considerations are not the same.
Shed Pad Specifications
A shed pad carries a relatively moderate, distributed load. Four inches of concrete with wire mesh handles this effectively. Anchor bolts are coordinated with your shed manufacturer during planning.
Hot Tub Pad Specifications
Heavy-DutyA loaded hot tub can reach 5,000 to 6,000 pounds on a pad as small as 8x8 feet. That demands 5-6 inches of concrete with rebar. Precise leveling is critical for proper hot tub function.
How Much Does a Pad Cost?
Concrete pad costs in Utah County for 2026 vary by size, thickness, and site conditions. Here are typical ranges.
Shed Pad Costs
Hot Tub Pad Costs
Included in these prices: Site grading, base compaction, formwork, reinforcement, concrete, broom finish, control joints, drainage slope, and cleanup. Hot tub pads cost slightly more per square foot because they require thicker concrete and stronger reinforcement.
What Affects Pad Cost
Site Access
Small backyard pads in tight spaces may require wheelbarrow delivery of concrete rather than direct chute pour, which adds labor time.
Demolition
Removing an old gravel pad, landscape timbers, or existing concrete adds $2-$4 per square foot.
Soil Conditions
Utah County clay soils vary significantly. Some sites need additional base material or moisture barriers.
Anchor Bolts
Adding anchor bolts for shed attachment is a minor additional cost but requires advance coordination with your shed manufacturer.
Electrical Conduit
Hot tub pads that need an electrical conduit pathway embedded in the base add a small amount to the project scope.
Other Backyard Pad Applications
Sheds and hot tubs are the most common projects, but the same concrete foundation works for a range of other backyard structures.

Gazebo Foundations
Perfectly level pads sized to your gazebo footprint. Most sit on a 10x12 or 12x14-foot pad at 4-inch thickness with anchor bolts for Utah County wind exposure.

Playhouse & Playset Pads
A concrete pad under a children's playhouse provides a clean, level surface that won't attract pests or rot. Typical sizes range from 8x8 to 10x12 feet.

Small Outbuilding Foundations
Workshop foundations, potting sheds, and hobby buildings benefit from a thicker 5-inch slab with a vapor barrier to keep moisture from wicking up.

Generator & Equipment Pads
Whole-house generators, AC condensers, and pool equipment need small, level pads. Typically 3x3 to 4x6 feet at 4-inch thickness.
Our Pad Installation Process
Rhode Concrete Corporation follows the same structured process for a 64-square-foot hot tub pad as we do for a 200-square-foot shed foundation. Bryce Jones and his son handle every step.
Free In-Person Estimate
Bryce visits your property, measures the pad location, checks soil conditions and drainage patterns, confirms access for concrete delivery, and coordinates with your shed or hot tub manufacturer's specs.
Site Preparation
We clear the pad area, remove sod, vegetation, or existing material, and excavate to the proper depth below finished grade.
Base Compaction
We install 4 inches of compacted road base (gravel) and compact in lifts. Proper compaction prevents settling under load.
Formwork
Precise forms are set to your exact pad dimensions with the correct drainage slope built in. Hot tub pads are verified level to tight tolerances.
Reinforcement & Anchors
Wire mesh (shed pads) or rebar grid (hot tub pads) is placed at the correct height within the slab. Anchor bolts are positioned per manufacturer specs if required.
Concrete Pour & Finish
We pour to specified thickness, consolidate, screed, and apply a broom finish for slip resistance. Control joints are cut at appropriate intervals.
Curing Instructions
We apply curing compound and provide specific curing guidance. Most pads accept light loads after 7 days and full loads after 28 days.
Why Rhode Concrete for Your Backyard Pad
A shed pad or hot tub pad might seem like a small project, but small does not mean simple. Getting the thickness, reinforcement, drainage, and leveling right requires the same attention to detail as pouring a 1,000-square-foot driveway.
Owner on Every Job
Bryce Jones and his son pour every backyard pad personally. Whether a $500 shed pad or a $2,000 hot tub foundation, you get the same owner-operated quality.
No Subcontractors
Our father-and-son crew does not hand off smaller jobs. The people who measured your yard are the people pouring your concrete.
Small Jobs Done Right
Your 10x12-foot shed pad gets the same proper base compaction, reinforcement, leveling, and finishing as our largest projects.
Utah County Soil Expertise
We know which areas have aggressive clay soils and which have better drainage. This informs base preparation that affects pad performance for 25+ years.
Licensed & Insured
Rhode Concrete Corporation holds a valid Utah contractor's license and carries full liability insurance, even on the smallest backyard pad projects.
